An unanticipated benefit of being an Axidental Retiree, is that you are able to stay up and watch late night TV. Since you don’t have to be at a job early in the morning, you can get up whenever (unless of course you have an interview or appointment), allowing you to watch television late the night before.
Last night, I saw the entire Tonight Show (http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show) starring Jimmy Fallon. It Was Great!! Jimmy’s guests included comedian Chris Rock, Governor Chris Christie (what a good sport!) and country singer Kacey Musgraves, with a surprise appearance by Ben Stiller as “Hashtag”, the Panda.
The Tonight Show has really gotten it – they have captured a formula that is non-stop entertaining and FUNNY! The show has broad appeal with many references to contemporary elements like social media ala Twitter and Facebook. Its standard model is usually a monologue, a weekly bit (“Pros & Cons”, “Hashtags”, “Thank You Notes”, etc.), two guests and one performance act with often times a surprise visitor.
I’m not sure if the show is entirely funny or just a bit over the top silly, but what difference does it make? It’s hard not laughing while watching with the many skits and routines Jimmy throws at the audience. You can really tell he is having fun on stage, smiling and laughing, relentlessly. It’s contagious and you feel great – what a nice way to end the day.
The show also has a great support team: Steve Higgins (the announcer), the writers, camera and media team and the “Roots Crew” band. Definitely make a point of catching the show sometime; you’ll enjoy it. I usually like watching entertainment from the comfort and convenience of my home, but if I ever get the opportunity to go to “Rock Center” to see the Tonight Show live, I’ll be there in a heartbeat.
